For all HAS Students (both Hydrology, ATMO, or undecided) who are also US Citizens
Information about the NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship and the NOAA William M. Lapenta Scholarship will be presented in Harshbarger Room 110 from 4:00-4:40pm on October 10th.
This is for all HAS students who do not plan to graduate in Spring 2026 or Summer 2026.
Note: The Lapenta is for both undergraduate and graduate students, as long as you will not graduate before the internship portion of the scholarship begins.
During this session, you will not only learn the details of the scholarship, but you will also hear first-hand accounts on the experiences offered by these scholarships through:
- Senior HAS student Tatum Beyer
- Current Hollings Scholarship recipient
- Traveled to the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Los Angeles/Oxnard in Summer 2025 to complete her Hollings research project and gain experience in working for the NWS
- National Weather Service Tucson Sciences & Operations Officer Tom Dang
- Co-organizer and host of Lapenta and Hollings Scholars for the last several years
Both these scholarships come with scholarship funding and/or stipends, as well as placement in various government organizations during the summer season to work on research projects in your area of interest (such as the National Weather Service).
In addition, these experiences can give you competitive access to careers with NOAA post-graduation.
